Why does Barack Obama keep talking about the American Dream?
The American Dream is, by its definition, contingent on the existence of capitalism: where an individual can hope to achieve his goals and live in accordance with his values. However, Barack Obama has just recently reaffirmed, or confirmed, his belief in the socialistic principle of redistributing income. In other words, what can the American person, seeking this "American Dream" hope to achieve, knowing that once he does accomplish his goals, that accomplishment will be taxed to "help others have the same opportunity"?
Obama likes to use the imagery of an American Dream because it sounds nice, like everything else he says. However, it’s a direct contradiction, and it’s pure sophistry.

Because it resonates with the 95% of America that’s been living through a Republican-freakin’ NIGHTMARE for 8 years and don’t fancy living through 8 more years of the same old elitist Trickle-down bullshyt… get it?
Oh… great logic on your part: thanks for laying the foundation for your own premise, then slathering the propaganda into the justification for your proof of your flawed argument, then you solve your faux-problem with yet more Republico-fascist pap. Good job.
And ‘socialism’? What do you call Medicare? Social Security? A ‘progressive’ tax system? Bank bailout (=privatize profit, socialize debt) Not to mention the health care system that Congress enjoys and that WE pay for? Sparky, the "free market" version of capitalism doesn’t work, in case you’ve been asleep this past month or so. Get with the program: all economies are a mixture, and America had, has and will have a mixed economy far into the future. Live with it.
Sophistry? Like, equating a semi-likable hick with the strained belief that she can be a VP just because she ‘energized the base’? (By the way: ‘the base’ is what Al Qaeda translates to: ‘the base.’ So-o-oooo glad to see Republicans constantly referring to their supporters as the English translation of Al Qaeda. S-o-o-oooo smart .)
Dear Sir,
haven’t you heard. The American Dream is for sale now. Everything in this country revolves around $$$$$$$, sadly but truly.
why do you think?
Seriously, read Obmamas policies for yourself
They are working hard to discredit him in any way they can..
Palin and McCain will really get us into a deeper hole..
We need a LEADER A PRESIDENT WITH SOME BRAINS..
How that capitalism working out for Americans lately. Seems it’s great for bankers,,they can screw everybody then use taxpayer money to get bailed out.
A progressive tax system IS income redistribution.
What the hell do you call tax cuts for the rich?
Oh wait, I get it. If you give money back to the wealthiest 5% it’s Capitalism, but if you cut taxes for the REST of us, it’s Socialism.
Do you have any idea how ridiculous your argument is? Neither candidate favors a flat tax, hence both are in favor of income redistribution. The only question is, who gets it.
Do you make more than $250k or less?
And ask yourself; which candidate actually LIVED the American dream. The one born into wealth, cheated on his sick wife and spent 26 yrs. receiving free health care or the one raised in poverty by a single mother, graduated college and law school and worked with the poorest among us prior to seeking public office.
Beats me. Why does John McCain keep talking about Joe the Plumber? Give me the dream, any day…
He’s talking about it because he wants to fool us. Then, when in office, he will kill it.
Because he came from Kenya (where he was born) to achieve the american dream.
just dont vote for the man
just vote for the man
He talks about the American Dream because that’s all the average American can relate to. Seriously, if Americans really took the time to research the issues, they’d see that Obama is no Messiah. But they don’t. They buy into his BS because that’s about all they can process. Sorry to say it, but the average American is pretty impatient and fairly ignorant.
