Why are we getting vacines to protect against the Swine Flu?
So far, the swine flu seems no more dangerous than the seasonal flu. Yet everyone is supposed to be vaccinated. Why? If they’re worried about swine flu mutating into a more dangerous flu, wouldn’t the vaccines fail to protect against the mutated version anyway? So why should we get vaccinated against swine flu?

The vaccine against the 2009 H1N1 isn’t yet available so "we" are not getting vaccines at this time. So why WILL people get vaccinated? Because people don’t enjoy getting sick. Because flu is so contagious and can put a large part of the population out of commission at the same time and because it’s a strain variant, we don’t have previous exposure to it. We don’t need for everyone to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. Yes, any current vaccine may fail to protect against a mutation but this also applies to seasonal type A H1N1, type H3N2 and one particular type B flu. Why do you think the routine vaccines have to be modified each year?
FYI to "Franny": Your kids were most fortunate but don’t make the mistake of thinking that all cases of swine flu are as abbreviated as apparently as mild as your children’s were. ANY flu can be mild, moderate or severe.
Im not sure. My 20 month old twins just got over the swine flu and it only lasted 3 days. I haven’t even gotten it yet. I think most of it is media hype.
A) We are NOT getting vaccines against the swine flu. They aren’t available, yet.
B) the problem is NOT that the H1N1 is more deadly than anything else, or any other flu, it is that it is so much more CONTAGIOUS than other flus. Which is why you get an extra vaccine for it. Cause you can have immunity to the regular flu, but not be immune to the H1N1 virus.
Sooooooooooooooo if one in 1000 people who gets either flu might die, and only 1000 people get the flu, one person dies. If, because it is so much more communicable, and the season…well, there isn’t a season…H1N1 has lasted through the summer, highly unusual…and, if 200,000 people get it, because they didn’t get the vaccine….do you get where this goes?
C) the new vaccine is made FROM the mutated version…hence the SWINE FLU vaccine, as opposed to the ORDINARY FLU vaccine, which HAS been available, this year, for over a month.
So far, there hasn’t been really a bad case of swine flu REPORTED. And because of this, most people don’t listen to the media’s warnings. I’ve had swine flu and it’s really bad. All you do is sleep which means that you will be awake one of the days that you are sick; you’ll feel like crap.
If the vaccine comes out, get it. You don’t want it.
