Where does this media perception of Tony Blair as a “pet dog” of President Bush come from?
I've seen references like this in a few political cartoons and other places, namely one that comes to mind is a cartoon I saw in which President Bush is shown throwing a ball that Tony Blair, with dog mannerisms, fetches, in order to have his belly rubbed.
Does this somewhat-cruel media perception stem soely from Blair's support of Bush and the Iraq war, or is it something more than that?
Please give specifics.
Thanks.

The FLAMING Left wing press is just attempting to discredit both of them. Since the press is always pissed that world leaders don't ask their advice on EVERYTHING, they want the people to think they (the press) have all of the answers.
He's one of the few who have stuck to their guns and defended their actions. The media doesn't like that.
It comes from the far left media base that cannot stand another country leader that will stand with the US in times of war.
The media made this and wants to portray Blair as having no opinion on his own, which is completely false. If you want to talk about a "Pet Dog", that would be liberals and the leader would be Islamic extremists.
" pet dogs" are a man's best friend and follower….
Bush is the leader of the world's strongest nation, while Blair is something of a sidekick, a leader of a weaker nation. While he is often seen as just agreeing with Bush, he is also believed to have secretly influenced some of Bush's biggest foriegn policy decisions, such as the decision to go to the UN with the evidence that Iraq had WMDs.
Yes , its stems mainly for the fact that the UK backed the Iraq war and the childish media agenda is anti war so has to demean the strength of good strong leaders….
Looks like a duck, flys like a duck, quacks like a duck – so must be a duck.
Here Bozo! Good boy Bozo! Wag, wag!
Blair was also complicit in manufacturing 'evidence' against Saddam. He lied to the British people for the sake of a place on the world stage. The USA didn't need Britain – Blair needed Bush to fulfill his fantasy of being a 'Statesman' and his delusion in believing he could influence global politics. The man is now much more than a Poodle, he's an accessory to a crime.
It might have to do with the choke chain he wears during his Press conferences.
poodle is always associated with unquestioning devotion and so the cap fits.
When Bush and his cohorts were trying to enlist the support of other nations to spill blood for oil in Iraq, Blair took a deep bite into the pack of lies Colin Powell was conned into telling them.
Since there is no evidence to support those lies after thousands of american and british have died (and oil costs rose), the british people have gotten fed up with Blair, so he announced his resignation, i.e. put his tail between his legs in shame. Yeah, a bad deal for Tony. I like the guy.
I don' think there is any more to it than that. The press just loves to jump on the underdog when he is down, but Blair has a pretty good track record otherwise, I think. If it weren't for the "failures" (time will tell) in Iraq, the political cartoons wouldn't be so cruel about Blair. As you can see, there is fertile ground for the 'dog' analogy in all this, so the connection is easy to see.
