Tony Blair?
Ok, now many people hate Tony Blair, me included, but I want to see the majority vote on this. Tony Blair did make some bad decisions i.e. sending people to war, when they dont even need to be out there…Why did UK get involved, yes were good friends, but seriously souls are getting slaughterd out there, and it really ****** me off.!!
What did Tony Blair do right?

Tony Blair is as bent as a £9 note like all labour !
Yes I think we did go to iraq & afghanistan for the right reasons (threat to region & barbaric taliban). but we also need to let the squaddies do their job with the right kit and with no expence spared. get the politians out of the battle because they dont know what they are talking about. Recently we we had the worlds best British Generals telling us that the Labour government IS lettting our boys and girls in the millitary down BADLY, thats why they are perishing. If they cant do the job out there, they should have NEVER been sent. I am proud of our armed services. Saddam broke 17 UN resolutions and deserved what he got, United Nations gave him too many deadlines, we know he had weapons of mass destruction becuase he used scuds and chemicals on his own people and launched the scuds on Israel to provoke a Holy Warin Operation Desert Storm, he was a nutter and needed to be toppled. Did you know that during the LEGAL invasion of Iraq, 38 Coalition countries were involved? Unlike the brave coalition countries, some leaders of other coaltion countries shit their pants and scarpered, leaving us in the shit with not enough resources. If the scared countries had of stayed it out, fewer British troops would be alive now and we would not be stretched to the limits. And before we get the tree huggers saying it was an ILLEGAL INVASION,
remember U.N. Resolution 1441 authorized military action !
By the way us British have our OWN minds, we are not poodles for any country and that includes our long standing friendship (of which I am proud of), with the United States or any other allies. We can fight our own battles and protect our own interests against anyone ! Remember WWll ? British spirit, we will never loose that, unless of course all these immigrants breed it out of us !
I tried to think of a polite comment on the answer 'Marky' gave. I think rubbish is about the best. Blair gave the PIRA murderers 90% of everything they asked for, thats called appeasement. Billions thrown at the NHS and it's only marginally better as you'll know if you've had to use it. Reduced crime? In your dreams.
Strong economic growth,if you tax people until the pips squeak that's growth?. The true interest rates are around 8% and I am being kind to Darling by saying that.
There are enormous financial problems on the horizon in the very near future mostly brought about by the financial incompetence of Brown and his acolyte Darling.
To answer the question………very little except look after himself
As for the EU Treaty even Labour die hards are beginning to realise we've been sold down the river.
Remember how the word "Legacy" was mentioned regularly in the press around the time Blair resigned? He knew he was getting out at the right time. The mess that Brown and Labour in general are in at the moment would have happened if it had still been Blair in charge. This way someone else gets some of the negative headlines. Can't stand him, but I can't fault him on his timing…
The only thing he did right was to resign, he should have done that years ago and then thousands of soldiers wouldn't have died unnecessarily in Iraq.
Nothing i can think of.
He tried his best at managing the country and performed this excellently. He then misjudged the acceptance of the British people to have their rights to choose to go to war curtailed. He could not see that Brits will never want 'American poodles' written across their faces in the name of the 'special one-way relationship'. Now that was his downfall.
couldn't agree with you any more and the best thing Blair did was to get out
Tony Blair wanted to be all things to all people and could not understand why some disagreed with his ideas and proposals. He mesmerised other Labour politicians who were too weak to oppose him and were frightened of losing their lucrative positions,
He reminds me of people like the evangelist Billy Graham or Richard the Lion-heart who were on a crusade to convince everyone that they were saviours of the world.
I remember when Tony Blair was proposed as M P for Sedgefield and schmoozed up to party officials,if he had been an actor he would have won an Academy Award.
Blair did nothing but feather his own personal nest. between him and cherie, they have amassed a small fortune in property amongst other things.
Then, when it looked like the labour party was going down the swanee, he jumped ship and left the problems to a man that he hated.
Blair should have been chairman of the self preservation society
after 10 yrs of Blair even the bus fares are sky high now!
and the mess in iraq? no one can forgive him fr tht whatevr else he did!!
L
I will try to think of an answer he throw money at the NHS not a good idea just gave The upper management more money to play with he stuck his nose in where i was not wanted puppy to the states went to war for oil not for the people Always reminded me of a wide boy spiv Nylons cheap might only have one leg but cheap
Well, why don't you go ahead and vote in David Cameron. That way you can experience life under the Tories and you may be able to answer your question yourself…..
Iraq was misguided and probably wrong. War is sh**t obviously, but he did a lot more in 10 years than go to war…
Remember Ireland and the Good Friday agreement??no, thought not.
What did he do right? Only one thing. He kept Gordon under wraps for ten years!
He did nothing right. The war is all part of America's`s plan to be in control of the whole world. Blair, Bush and all those other Muppet's are doing everything for their selves.
To you all- watch ' loose change', its a real eye opener!
The min wage went up- tax higher, everything more exspencive….
He got Iraq wrong, but think of all the fantastic things he did here at home. The minimum wage made millions better off (though it could be higher) – we have lower interest rates and lower inflation than 10 years ago (which were both typically in double figures)
We had mass unemployment of around 4 million under the Tories, which is no longer an issue.
Schools and hospitals all over this town have either been refurbished or completely rebuilt.
The Tories did nothing like that. Tony Blair was the best PM we have had since Clement Attlee.
EDIT re Iraq War – remember TB was the first PM in history to ask the House of Commons for permission to go to war (the PM does not need to do this) – and he got the votes he needed. From the Conservatives.
Solved the troubles in Northern Ireland
Got the NHS out of a major crisis left by the tories
Put many more police onto the street
Reduced crime (yes, it has come down depsite what the tabloids would have you believe)
Oversaw a strong economic growth
Reduced interest rates from 15% under the tories to under 5%
