Do you think Obama will pressure Gordon Brown to open up the Slave files and how much money Britain made?
If I was Obama I would ask Gordon Brown to cooperate and open up the exact money Britain made from the slave trade during the last century and also the rest of Europe such as Spain and Portugal.

Osama, sorry Obama, has no right to ask anything like that of our Prime Minister. The Slave Trade is in the distant past and I am tired of people raking it up. The USA has plenty for which it can be criticised, and much of it within living memory. Perhaps they should attend to that first.
No.
Because then African nations would have to open up their slave files and tell us how many of their fellow Africans they sent to slavery in the New World.
No, do you think that America should release their records of the slave trade?
I think he might be a little more concerned with the 600,000 taxpayers that lost their jobs – JUST LAST MONTH !!!!!
( and if he asked I would say that my government has determined that it is NOT in the public interest to divulge such information and therefore I have issued a veto certificate under section 53 of the Freedom of Information Act (2000)
The slave trade was about blacks in Africa selling their own kind to the British so they could take them to sell to Americans what possible value could be gained by asking how much was made by this?.It would be far better for him to interest himself in modern Africa where people are selling their children or they are being abducted into ongoing slavery but of course there is no money in that and money is the thing that brings out Americans high principles faster than anything else..
Who cares? The slaves, slave-owners and slave-traders are all long dead and gone. Move on.
Since we are in the 21st Century, the "last century" would be the 20th Century. Britain made exactly ZERO money from the slave trade in the 20th Century, since Britain abolished slavery the century before (1833 = 19th Century).
What is your point in asking such a ridiculous question? Looking for another Obama hand-out, er, I mean "reparations," are you? Get a job.
Nice to see where you think Obama’s priorities should be. It’s not as if he has anything more important to do than extort money from Britain for the sins of the dead.
Besides, why should Obama care? None of his ancestors were American or British slaves — his daddy was born and raised in Kenya, and his mommy is lily-white, remember? Do American blacks expect Obama to champion "black causes" just because he’s half-black? That’s a pretty racist expectation, isn’t it?
Gee and while we are at it we can make the greeks, romans, Mongols, and countless other civilizations who enslaved people to pay them back too…..you are really on to something here.
Duncan is right, the Brits were very much against slavery. they in fact were a big player in the circumstances leading up to the Civil war. The south was selling their cotton to England, who was giving them a better price for it than the north could. All the cotton was going overseas and the US government put a blockade around southern ports to stop it. That’s what started the war. the Emancipation Proclamation, which made the war to be over the slavery issue, was nothing more than a political ploy to keep England from getting involved, because they were very much against slavery.
Good idea, lets follow the trail all the way to the African tribes that were selling their enemies to the white slave traders. Trace their descendants and sue them.
That was sarcasm.
I think your forgetting who else was also involved in the slave trade
I don’t get, even if Gordon Brown did cooperate what the answer is going to achieve?
Leave the past in the past I say, this is only going to cause more arguments.
I think it would be appropriate for Gordon Brown or any other leader to tell Obama to fuck off and die if he made such an idiotic request.
I don’t think Britain made any money with the slave trade during the last century, nor the one before that.
In the 19th century, it was the British ships that were freeing slaves from the holds of American ships.
Slavery was outlawed in Britain long before it was in the USA.
